Chapter 17
After what felt like an eternity of nothingness, my eyes fluttered open.
Iâm awake?
Well, that was a welcome surprise. And it wasnât the only one. The liquid grave which had tried to consume me was nowhere to be found. I didnât even feel wet.
I breathed a sigh of relief.
Wait, breathed. I could breathe again! I started gulping down air like it was going out of fashion. It felt so good drinking sweet oxygen once more.
After giving my lungs the refreshment they craved, I considered the question Iâd ignored for too long.
Where am I?
I was in a rather bog-standard room with metal walls. There were a few chairs, some desks, and piles of tat. Nothing too out of the ordinary, except for the glowing white flower bunting that provided the topsy-turvy space with the light it needed.
Oh, did I forget to mention the room wasnât the right way around?
While it wasnât upside down, the room seemed to be tilted on its side. The fitted fixtures clung to surfaces they shouldnât have, including a single doorway which had turned into a hole in the ground.
Is this the ship?
That made the most sense. How Iâd gotten inside was a different question.
I went to stand but something yanked me back.
What the?
I pulled my arms, but they hardly budged. A pair of handcuffs restrained me, locking my arms behind the chair Iâd awoken on. Also, I was completely naked.
Suddenly, escaping the water didnât seem so good.
I thrashed and tried to break through the cuffs. Despite my super strength, the blasted things didnât give.
âCome on,â I growled. âBreak already.â
Sadly, the cuffs didnât do requests. They stubbornly refused me freedom. And it wasnât as if I was being hampered by paralytic toxins or airborne poison. I was back in top shape. The cuffs were simply too tough. Not that I let that perturb me. I kept fighting with a one-track mind. Nothing was going to stop me except, say, an unexpected visitor.
She arrived with a splash that made me jump out of my skin. All of a sudden, a woman was dragging herself through the floor-based doorway.
I couldnât help gawping at her for a variety of good reasons. Once again, the universe had dropped an eye-catching attraction into my lap.
Where to start with her? Maybe her skin? Her smooth purple flesh that was complemented by darker markings that ran down her exposed limbs. You know the ones I mean. Her arms, her legs, her tentacles.
Yep, tentacles.
Donât mistake her for a child of Scylla or something pulled from a creepy Japanese film. It was her hair where the attention-grabbing appendages made their home. Well, the place that her hair would have been, if her mane hadnât been fashioned by the finest of octopus stylists.
You better believe they had a pale underbelly and suckers you could see from a distance.
If you think any of that sounds ugly, you couldnât be more wrong. Maybe the harem under my care had caused me to become a horndog, but that didnât change the fact she looked gorgeous.
